Photography shoot 1
Test Shoot
Natural lighting
over cast
no control lighting
curtains/blinds wide open, only lace certain
cannon 550D
Sigma 28-300mm lens
What was shot,
bed sheets, shower, water, clothes, coffee, pouring water, purse journal and watch and phone, tooth brush, makeup, hair, jacket, bag, bike hamlet, door with bike in view.
this shoot was used to test natural lighting and the affect of the lace in lighting, this was also to test the 28-300mm lense before using the 18-55mm Lens or getting a micro lens out for a textured close up study.
From this shoot I have learnt the overcast weather is quite nice to shoot in because it gives an airy feel to the photos and has potential for lots of editing in light room to make the photo more vibrant and overly exposed or make it more surreal. Due to the photos already having and airy feel to them it will be easy to make them more surreal and unusual.
I have planned for my book to be laid out like a fashion magazine to make it seem more invasive, so it will not be so much as a proper eye perspective. It will still be a persons day to day like just more snapshots.
Pre-editing
I still need to experiment with some other photos, like the textures and getting shots of running water that are focused on the water. Also want to develop the type of textures to take photos of and experiment with set and out I place things in the set.
For example I will play around with how I display my makeup and hair products I think it will be interesting if I make it look like an advertisement by how I display the products. Also change up the location to make it more different. Make it not to boring and looking the same.
I also want to make it a bit more surreal, by adding in odd things every now and again to see how that looks. Having things out of place.
I also would further look into minimalism, I personally don't think this is minimal enough for me. I would like to make it more minimal and have less make it more airy and strange looking.
Also want to play around with lighting I might use a lamp or something to create a larger light source or to highlight things, not sure if it will work though it might just make it to over exposed. I quite liked the under exposed look because it makes the editing process more flexible in mu opinion also makes the image more airy and creepy.
Photos after being edited.
I played around with temperature because I was curious on what affect it had on the image and I wanted to look into blue over tone to add a different affect and make it more playful.
Though after testing the temperature I found that if I used it at a lower degree it made the image more whiter and crisp with a light blue tone to the image which I quite liked. It also toned down the over expose that I had to do one some images and toned down the white highlights. I might have made it to blue to and extent but I am still experimenting with the idea of the blue over tone as its quite interesting the affect it has on the image
This is a comparison of what it looks like with and without the -13 on temperature

From this shoot I have learnt that over cast weather is good for taking photos of the lace and for editing in light room to be more flexible.
For the texture photography I need to have a go with the micro lens with the different textures.
I need to make the images more cohesive, they aren't flowing nicely enough. I personally think its because of clutter. some parts are still to cluttered. for example my closet, and were I do my makeup is very cluttered. So I will considered changing the set of were the makeup is and how it is presented.
I also want to look into cohesive colour scheming, as it has a cohesive through majority of the photos, its just my clothes and were I do my makeup is standing out to much in my opinion. So I will look into making my clothing look more minimalist in colours, so mainly black and white and maybe tan? I would also take the towels away and the boxes. Making it less cluttered and maybe then the colours will not compete against each other and make it look more simplistic.
I will also move the makeup station possible into the bathroom to make it seem nicer as the colours of the wall aren't very nice but it looks a lot nicer anymore cohesive with the grey walls and it might make it more minimalist, or using the desk which is white by the window. Clearing the desk off and making a photo shot type of set. though if it is to sunny the light will reflect off the desk so I will take that into consideration. Though it will be good to experiment with placement of objects and how to present them, as this is important to aesthetics when it comes to still life. I also never considered the rule of thirds or golden ratio when it came to taking the photos of the makeup or my clothes. I was just going through my morning routine to see what I actually did and what order and to see how to capture those moments.
Over all I think this was a good first test shoot as I got to experiment a lot when it came to light room and lighting as I looked into natural lighting. I also know now what I need to improve on and how to improve it and also see what I need to improve personally as a photographer. I can also visually see how my book will turn out and have a better understanding in the overall product.
My next shoot will be based around textures and clean minimalism.
