Art history - week 7 - 25/03/2019
Cliff Whiting documentary
I really enjoyed this documentary, I think it was because of the spiritual element that I related to when watching this. The showing a story, showing yourself through art and relating art back to yourself you history and your cutler. It very interesting to see his perspective on traditional Mario art and keeping tradition in art but also being able to change in and make it contemporary , showing the same story and history just in a different matter. I also thought it was interesting how he used power tools I didn't think he would but he did, he also explained why he used them not just for speed and producing things faster and more accurate, but he had come ok with the the fact tradition can change and become modern as long as you are respecting and understanding of your tradition. He also talks about knowing your tradition before making changes or making it contemporary which I agreed with as I do think that is important. This documentary has really inspired me but it also connected with me as a person and as an artist. connecting your art back to yourself and your tradition and/or history.
these are my notes, key concepts I took down while watching the film.
