AUCKLAND ART GALLERY

Marylyn Mayo had lifelong interests in education, law and the visual arts. She collected the work of Australian and New Zealand artists and enjoyed visiting art galleries, particularly the Auckland Art Gallery.

After her death in 2002, the Marylyn Mayo Foundation was established by her husband for the benefit of a number of causes. These are cancer research; The University of Auckland Law School for legal research, the Marylyn Mayo Rare Book Room, named in her memory at the Davis Law Library; the Auckland Art Gallery Marylyn Mayo Internships and Reading Room, a scholarly arts journal, to encourage training and research for the advancement and wider appreciation of visual arts.

As a result of this generosity, we're pleased to offer opportunities for internships at Auckland Art Gallery that develop the skills of people wishing to pursue a career in art galleries and art museums.

The Marylyn Mayo Internships at the Gallery offer training and work experience for a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of three months full-time, or for a longer time, to be negotiated, on a part-time basis to:

people currently employed in an art gallery or museum, or who have had some relevant experience and have an ongoing commitment to working in this area.
Specific internships are offered at the Gallery each year in particular areas, such as curatorial, education, public programmes, print and electronic publications, communications, research library, audience research and development, conservation, collection management, exhibitions management, imaging, design and exhibitions preparatory work.

TATTOO
GARAGE INK

  1. Be an artist. This is the first and most important step. You can't become a tattoo artist without first being an artist.
  2. Build a portfolio. I mean a tattoo apprenticeship portfolio, not a tattoo artist's portfolio. They're different. Learn more below.
  3. Find a certified tattoo artist-mentor who will take you on as an apprentice. This might be tricky. Learn how to approach a shop below.
  4. Learn the trade. During your apprenticeship, you'll do a lot of menial tasks, but you'll also learn professional business skills, best hygienic work practices, and tattoo design.
  5. Get certified. Every state has its own requirements; learn more and find links below.
  6. Find a shop to work in. After your apprenticeship and certification, you'll be ready to start getting paid! But first, you'll have to find a shop to work in.
Each of these steps is described in detail below, including answers to all the most frequently asked questions about the process.

A Tattoo internship is 2-year process where you learn the technical, health and safety aspects of tattoo under a tattoo artist or tattoo parlor. It is up to the parlor owner or a Tattoo Artist them self to take in an intern or apprentice and teach them the ways of tattooing.

600 WORDS

I chose to pick internships that were in all different fields of visual arts to show how I can apply for different jobs and be a flexible worker that can bring different things to the table with my visual arts degree.

The first internships is at Auckland Art Gallery, this is because I thought it would be a great way to be able to expand my knowledge about art in a more interactive way with a museum. As this opportunity at Auckland Art Gallery can develop the skills to pursue a career in an art gallery and or art museums, which is something I am very interested in. I chose Auckland Art Gallery because it is the largest art Gallery in New Zealand but also there is currently over 17, 000 art works in the Auckland Art Gallery.

The second Internship is at Mayday animation in Wellington is a team of artists, inventors, and crafts-folk committed to building a legacy of unique game experiences that explore tragic characters, philosophical questions, and redefine genres. This internship would help expand my knowledge for Character design and concept art which is something I am heavily interested in and wouldn't mind pressuring a job in.

Third internship is at Duo Photography in Upper Hutt, their internship is sole-proprietorship with a large network of creative, inspiring, colorful artists ready to share their art with the world. This internship will help expand my knowledge and passion for photography as I have already done photography jobs before but it will help develop a further and deeper understanding of photography and studio lighting so I can perform at my best of my abilities. I also think this will be a great internship to help further expand my portfolio as an artist and be a more well around artist to hire.

Fourthly is Space Creation they are an architectural and interior design firm founded in 2017 to create customized commercial, hospitality and retail designs. This would be an internship that is in a different and unknown field that I would like to expand upon as I would like to experiment with interior design. As I have always enjoyed decorating and organising room to make the visually pleasing yet functional, this will also help expand my drawings and give me a better understanding on how to do graphic design with homes and environments. This will also help to expand my portfolio more and expand my knowledge.

Fifthly Garage Ink Tattoo an all female Australian Tattoo Parlor, this opportunity would start me off in my Tattoo artist journey as it is the beginning step to become a tattoo artist and give me all the knowledge I need to know before I can become a Tattoo artist. I enjoy the fact it is an all women's tattoo parlor which empowers women in a healthy and loving way. Tattooing is also one of my preferred professions as an artist and this internship with be able to set me up for a career in the tattoo industry.

Lastly Parachute Studio is a kids summer camp that focuses on bringing awareness to global issues like sustainability, ocean pollution, and endangered species with the use of art workshops, this would be the most suitable internship for me as it aligned with the jobs that I have applied for this assessment, as it is not only working with children It is also bringing awareness to global issues and I am very passionate about spreading awareness to global issues to children and educating them about how to care for the planet and the effects we have on the planet.
