Traditional Art into Modern:  Korea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R-HiXBFiFc

This Documentary was interesting as it talked about all areas of art in Korea no just the visual arts and how the art forms came to be which was great for giving context on the traditions around them. Also now that I have seen all the different styles and ways of creating Asian art, is it now a lot easier to understand and differentiate between them.

I really enjoyed learning about the dance side of Korean culture, and how it is a huge part of their traditions and their is a dance for just about everything.

Types of art in Korea

  • Painting and Calligraphy
  • Pottery
  • Handicrafts

This was interesting as it showed the process and how precise everything must be when it comes to creating the ceramics vases an only about 10% makes it to the final cut when it comes to making them.

I really enjoyed watching this video about Lee Bul, as I related to her as an artist. Especially how  she doesn't just stick to one medium and theme, as that is something I do as well. I enjoyed all her works but I very much enjoyed her work that explored the key idea of what it means to be a women which is what I am currently doing now.

She really has inspired me to do more work on experimenting with the women body and beauty standards of the women body in the gazes of women and men, also having a cyborg futuristic feel to the works. As it seems to talk about how we will slowly replace ourselves with cyborg part to become the perfect form. Which expands of my current idea that I am doing with Theory 213.

I will defiantly add her as a new artist model for BVA 213, as she expands further into the questioning of what it means to be a women and the social-political roles of a women and the questioning of the male and female gaze toward the female body.
